Paris Summer Abroad Internships
A limited number of internship opportunities are available with prestigious law firms in Paris. Internships are available only to students who register and enroll in the academic portion of the summer law program.
Selections will be made by the director on a competitive basis based on CVs and an interview, concerning such factors as background/fit and French level. Students must speak at least “functional” French in order to qualify.
The length or duration of the unpaid internship is normally three to four weeks, but can be longer, and depends on the needs of the firm and the student's availability.
In addition to law firm internships, the Paris Program offers Directed Internships under the supervision of the program director. During these internships, students conduct research on Paris institutions or some aspect of French or European law. This type of internship is available to each student who registers in the program.
Letter from the director regarding internships:
We have a number of Paris law firms who receive our students
as interns. They are awarded on a competitive basis, and knowledge of French
and a good transcript are important factors in the evaluation. One of the
firms, for example, is quite large and has offices around the globe. Another
is small but warm, friendly and interesting, with some international practice. An
intern can arrive ahead of the program dates to start the internship, then work
concurrently in afternoons with the program classes in the morning, and may
even stay working on after the program. The actual schedule is entirely worked
out between the firm and the intern, and there is usually flexibility on their
part as to dates.
